WELCOME TO OUR ADULTHOOD, WELCOME TO OUR LIFE!
We are the generation with the bad economy, the low wages, uncertain futures, the zero commitment, and the don’t you dare dream of even buying a house… You gotta love being a millennial!! Some of us are 30 or almost 30, and we are not where we thought we would be at 30. How many times I’ve had conversations with people my age and we all agree on one thing: we don’t know what on earth are we going to do with our lives This is the picture we had, the expectation at 30: Married, kids, a house, a stable job. We didn’t picture anything crazy, we picture doing what we heard our parents did at 30, perhaps we imagined earning more money and thinking about buying a house or at least be able to afford dental care at this age. OUR reality: no house, no stable job, we can barely make it through the month, and we are all broke – although we always have some money for drinks or weed, we need to navigate life somehow! - We understand there is no way in hell we are ever affording a house and we don't even think about retirement, let alone kids! Kids represent so much money and pollution. We do however have lots of debt and that is all me know. Some lucky ones still live with their parents or off-them rather, and our degrees from University you ask? They are worth nothing! Nobody is giving you a decent job these days, period; sometimes not even if you have a master’s degree. All these sound discouraging and it is! But our generation is also about entrepreneurship, fighting the norms, and start new things. We might not be committed to a partner and we might fool a lot with our Tinder dates -- to be honest, the dating scene nowadays might be depressing -- but as millennials, we do have a more conscious mind overall. We are empowering the feminist movement, we are becoming more tolerant towards others, we care about our politics and the planet, and we are more conscious about our health! Just go to a dinner party and they are going to look at you weirdly if you dare to say you eat meat. We try to fight fast fashion and we are all about political correctness and inclusivity. Every generation has the good, the bad, and the ugly: OUR GOOD Technology, globalization, and awareness. We can connect with the entire world, we have more information available, and we are able to create things that were unheard of before. OUR BAD Low salaries, terrible economy, crazy real estate markets, pollution, global warming, and uncertain futures. THE UGLY Presidents! Being ruled by crazy people that make terrible decisions. Also, bizarre Influencers that do crazy things and share everything about them --they even fake their weddings for views. Don't ́t get me wrong, I love youtube and Instagram, but some people that are supposed to “influence” our society are not the best examples for the younger generation, but hey! They are hella fun to watch. I just want to conclude this rant with one positive aspect about our beloved generation: We are creators and we have the resources to create anything we want, but we need to control our futures and not let our old society define our generation!

What can you expect From filthy little heathens? Here's what you get when races are divers They're only good when dead They're vermin, as I said And worse They're savages! Savages! Barely even human They're not like you and me, which means they must be evil We must sound the drums of war! Dirty shrieking devils! Now we sound the drums of war! (Savages, Disney Pocahontas) These lyrics from the song Savages of the animated Disney movie Pocahontas represent some of the issues we still face to this day in our modern society. |
When a country in power attacks and kills people in another country, including women and children, we call them HEROES. We accept their violent acts as acceptable, but on the other hand, when an army or group of people goes to a first world country and acts in the same way and protects their people, we call them monsters and terrorists ... but aren't “terrorists” also defending an idea, their idea of peace? |
